McGaheysville
Area Plan
The Community
Alliance for Preservation is actively involved in the campaign for a sustainable
and realistic development plan for the McGaheysville Area. McGaheysville is
being targeted as a significant future growth area.
The McGaheysville Area Plan was considered by the Board of Supervisors at their March 22 meeting. Please check back soon for an update on the discussion.
Maps
This map shows the level of development allowed by the Citizens' Advisory Committee's
density numbers. This development area is roughly the size of Harrisonburg and
conflicts with the smart growth language of the committee's vision statement.
The Planning Commission has voted to double and triple the density shown on
this map. View.
Compare this second map of a plan that is more in keeping with the Citizens' Advisory Committee's official vision for the area. With this plan, McGaheysville would remain a small, rural historic village surrounded by farms and forests. It would retain its small-town identity, human scale, and sense of place. View.
