Rockingham County is a top agricultural producer, in both Virginia and the US, and farming remains a big part of our local economy. This agricultural heritage contributes in numerous ways to our high quality of life – provding fresh food and farm products, preserving historic Civil War battlefields at Port Republic and Cross Keys, and protecting the unique rural character of our communities.

CAP works hard to ensure county plans for growth and economic development retain the integrity of Rockingham’s rural landscape and farm economy.

On Farm Activities

CAP supports leaving decision-making on appropriate commercial land uses on farms with local governments and limited these uses to those closely related to agriculture and farm production.

Land Conservation

CAP supports landowners’ use of voluntary conservation easements, both donated and purchased, to preserve working lands, forests, battlefields and other natural and historic resources.

CAP provides timely and accurate information to foster good public policy in transportation, land use planning and land conservation.

CAP studies how local, regional and state plans will impact Rockingham County's rural heritage, traditional towns and villages, and the natural, historic and other resources essential to our high quality of life.

CAP helps Rockingham residents make their voices heard on matters that impact the County's rural character, urban spaces and natural and cultural resources.
