GWNF Final Plan Release

The final management plan for the George Washington National Forest (GWNF) ā€“ nearly 25 percent of the land in Rockingham County – was released in November 2014.

Rockingham County joined nine other local governments adjacent to the GWNF in urging federal officials to maintain their proposed ban on horizontal drilling for natural gas on the public lands. The Forest Service responded to public input and does not allow new leases in the final management plan.
