Loop Roads Won’t Solve Problems

CAP plays a unique role in Rockingham County in our analysis of local, regional and state transportation plans and the potential impacts on the county’s rural landscape and agricultural economy.

CAP supports road projects that ease local traffic connections, use scarce transportation funds wisely and minimize impacts on our communities and natural and historic resources. CAP opposes the unnecessary, costly and outdated plans to supersize I-81 and build a loop road or bypass around Harrisonburg through Rockingham’s prime farmland and battlefields.

With no funding, no local or regional support, and outdated traffic models, it is time for state officials to remove the Harrisonburg bypass from plans for I-81.

Harrisonburg Bypass/Loop Road

It also is time to remove the destructive loop road proposal from county, city and regional traffic plans.

Rural Roads Planning

CAP promotes rural road plans that avoid working farms and sprawl development in rural areas and focus on more efficient improvements to existing road networks.

CAP provides timely and accurate information to foster good public policy in transportation, land use planning and land conservation.

CAP studies how local, regional and state plans will impact Rockingham County's rural heritage, traditional towns and villages, and the natural, historic and other resources essential to our high quality of life.

CAP helps Rockingham residents make their voices heard on matters that impact the County's rural character, urban spaces and natural and cultural resources.
